  1. Herniated disc – Disc are made of cartilage which is a strong and resilient material, the cartilage act as a cushion between each nerve and allows the spine to be flexible. A herniated disc occurs when a disc is pushed out of place and putting pressure on sciatic nerve.
  2. Lumbar spinal stenosis – spinal stenosis is also called stenosis of spinal cord. This is characterized by an abnormal narrowing of your spinal cord. This contraction puts pressure on your spinal cord and the roots of sciatic nerve.
  3. Spondylolisthesis – when one spinal cord advances from another, the expanded spinal cord puts pressure on your sciatic nerve. Spondylolisthesis is also slipping or dislocation or displacement of one vertebral bone over other causing compression of spinal nerve.
  4. Muscle spasm- when the muscle of your back, buttocks and foot becomes hard, tight and painful, also it gives you muscle cramps than it puts pressure on your sciatic nerve.

Your surgeon will remove the bone spur or the portion of herniated disc, which puts pressure on the pinched nerve.
